The Humanitarian Aid Provided by Turkey to Chechen Refugees in Georgia (Unofficial Translation) No:11 - February 1, 2000

The Turkish Government sent the first and second part of the humanitarian aid through the Turkish Red Crescent to Vladikavkaz and Georgia respectively on 25 November and 25 December 1999 in order to help meet urgent needs of the innocent civilians who were affected seriously by ongoing clashes in Chechnya and were therefore forced to take refuge in nearby regions.

With the aim of ameliorating the difficult conditions of the innocent Chechen civilians which are steadly getting worse by severe winter, as they are forced to flee from their homes and find shelter in Georgia, today Turkey sent the third part of the humanitarian aid containing 36 tons of food supply and medical materials .

The Turkish Government hopes that the humanitarian wounds caused by the clashes in Chechnya will not deepen and renew its appeal for a settlement without further delay within the framework of the supremacy of law and respect for human rights.
