The "Agreement between the Government of Turkey and the Government of the Russian Federation on Cooperation in the Maritime Areas in the Black Sea" was signed in Istanbul on April 12, 2000 by the Turkish Coast Guard Commander, Rear-Admiral Yalçın Ertuna and the Head of the Russian Federal Border Service, Colonel-General Vasilyeviç Totskiy.
The agreement entails cooperation in exclusive economic zones in the Black Sea in matters like smuggling of all kind, terrorism, preservation of biological sources, protection against sea pollution, rendering assistance to those who are in danger and prevention against violations in maritime areas.
The meetings between the delegations of Turkey and the Russian Federation were held in a friendly atmosphere and the parties have agreed to exchange knowledge, experience in personnel education, technical equipment and the logistic field as well as to exchange documentation and other materials in domains which are within the framework of the above-mentioned agreement.
This agreement will contribute to the developing cooperation between Turkey and the Russian Federation.
