Dün (6 Ekim 2004) İsrail Maslahatgüzarı, Müsteşar Vekili Büyükelçi Ali Tuygan tarafından  Dışişleri Bakanı ve Başbakan Yardımcısı Sayın Abdullah Gül adına Bakanlığa çağrılmış ve bölgede son bir hafta içerisinde tekrar artan çatışma ve şiddet olayları konusundaki endişelerimiz ve beklentilerimiz dikkatine getirilmiştir. Yapılan görüşmede ayrıca, bu olaylar neticesinde çok sayıda kişinin hayatını kaybetmesinden duyduğumuz derin üzüntü ve endişe de vurgulanmıştır.

Dışişleri Bakanı ve Başbakan Yardımcısı Sayın Abdullah Gül’ün 3 Ekim 2004 tarihinde  İstanbul’da gerçekleşen “Medeniyet ve Uyum:Değerler ve Global Düzenin Mekanizmaları” Uluslararası Sempozyumunda yaptığı konuşmanın ilgili bölümü:

“At this point, I should express my deep concern for the very recent surge of hostilities, violence and terror all around the world.

Tragedies of the last few weeks or days   in Gaza, Beslan and Samarra,  India and Pakistan,  Colombia and Nigeria are most distressing.
I am extremely worried.

My concern is that every casualty, loss of every innocent life will deepen the negative feelings among nations.

Every home, be it a refugee shelter or a sky-scraper, every school, shrine or temple demolished  will  leave deep scars, further   aggravating these conflicts.

I am concerned because this many tragedies might weigh too heavy to endure for the world.
Urgent political response to all these issues seems necessary more than ever.”

Dışişleri Bakanı ve Başbakan Yardımcısı  Sayın Abdullah Gül’ün 23 Eylül 2004 tarihinde Birleşmiş Milletler Genel Kurulu’nda yaptığı konuşmanın ilgili bölümü :

”Mr. President
The Middle East problem and the situation in Iraq and Afghanistan stand as the major conflicts compounding instability in the world and leading to increasingly serious consequences. 
 
The Road Map is the only available framework for a comprehensive settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian problem. Benefiting from her traditional ties with the parties, Turkey has already offered its active contribution to the implementation of the Road Map. We also support every effort that is initiated and coordinated in this context. We join the call made by the Quartet yesterday.

The resumption of the negotiating process between the two parties should remain the central objective of the current efforts. Likewise, fulfilling the performance criteria by both sides as laid out in the Road Map is important. Terrorist attacks against the Israeli people must stop. So must the deliberate destruction of Palestinian lives and properties.  The reform process of the Palestinian institutions must be advanced. Israeli settlement activities must be immediately halted. The ruling of the International Court of Justice must be respected. The living conditions of the Palestinians need to be urgently improved.

Any settlement would not be complete without progress in all the tracks including the Syrian and the Lebanese ones.”
