The 118th Session of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers will convene in Strasbourg on 7 May 2008. A delegation headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Babacan will attend the meeting.



The Council of Europe, founded with the principal aims to protect and promote human rights, the rule of law and pluralist democracy, has today become an organisation active in every field except defence matters. The Committee of Ministers which comprises the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of member countries and meets once a year, is the main decision making organ of the Council of Europe.



Minister Babacan will subsequently participate in the 11th WDR (Westdeutscher Rudfunk) Europa Forum being organized by WDR, one of the leading broadcasting institutions in Germany, in Slovenia`s capital Ljubljana on 8-9 May 2008. It is planned for Minister Babacan to deliver a speech on the subject of “Europe’s Alliances – Strategies in troubled Times” at the 11th WDR Europa Forum on 8 May, to have several contacts and to return to Turkey the same day.
