Relations between Türkiye and Kosovo

Political Relations:

Türkiye and Kosovo enjoy friendly relations based on their common history. Türkiye recognized Kosovo on 18th February 2008, which gained its independence on 17th February 2008, and was among the first countries to recognize Kosovo. Our Coordination Office in Pristina, which became operational in 1999, was upgraded to the Embassy level after the declaration of independence. As of 1st September 2015, our Consulate General in Prizren, where the Kosovar Turkish community is densely populated, became operational. Thus, Türkiye became the first country to open a Consulate General in Kosovo.

The deep-rooted historical ties between our common cultures and peoples also consolidate the friendly relations between the two countries.

Türkiye attaches importance to Kosovo's stability, territorial integrity, development and integration with European and Euro-Atlantic institutions, as well as establishing friendly and constructive neighborly relations in the region. In this regard, Türkiye supports the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue Process.
