Political Outlook of the Republic of Kosovo

While Kosovo is being administered by "United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo-UNMIK" established with the United Nations Security Council’s (UNSC) resolution dated 10 June 1999 and numbered 1244, The Provisional Institutions of Self-Government in Kosovo established under UNMIK, declared the independence of Kosovo on 17 February 2008, pursuant to the Ahtisaari Plan supported by the international community.

Kosovo's foreign policy is based on increasing its visibility and independence in international platforms, ensuring United Nations (UN) and Council of Europe membership, and integration with the European Union and Euro-Atlantic institutions.

The International Court of Justice ruled on 22 July 2010 that the independence of Kosovo did not constitute a violation of international law.

Türkiye resolutely supports the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue Process carried out under the facilitation of the EU and plays an active role in the Dialogue Process by the virtue of our good relations with the parties.
