We welcome the visit of His Excellency Mr. Michel Suleiman, the President of Lebanon, to Damascus on August 13th – 14th, 2008 upon the invitation extended by His Excellency Mr. Bashar al-Assad, the President of Syria.

The two Heads of State have agreed on the establishment of diplomatic relations at Ambassadorial level and have discussed various topics, including the demarcation of the joint border, in the course of the meetings that took place during this visit which constitutes the highest level of contact between the two countries since 2005. We deem this visit as a significant development for the establishment of peace, tranquility and stability in our region.

Turkey will continue to support steps in this direction as she has done so until this day.
