Turkey strongly condemns the terror attack that took place in Beirut on 13 June 2007 causing the death of a member of parliament, Mr.Walid Eido and 10 other people.

Terror attacks in Lebanon targeting prominent members of the society as well as the civilians, which intensified recently, aim to damage the security and the stability of the country.

The developments in Lebanon pose further threat to the security and stability of the Middle East which is already going through a difficult period.

We hope that the perpetrators of this heinous attack will be swiftly apprehended and brought before justice.

Turkey, which has always emphasized the importance of international cooperation in the fight against terrorism, would once again like to underline its solidarity with the friendly people and Government of Lebanon.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Abdullah Gül met with the Lebanese Minister of Internal Affairs Mr. Hasan El-Sabeh, who was in İstanbul to attend the 2nd Istanbul Conference on Democracy and Global Security, and conveyed our grief about the incident and expressed our views on combating terrorism.
