NO:126 -;7 September 2007, Press Release Regarding the Assassination Attempt Against President of Algeria HE Abdelaziz Bouteflika (Unofficial Translation)

As a result of the assassination attempt against President of Algeria HE Abdelaziz Bouteflika which occurred yesterday in the city of Batna in Algeria, numerous people were killed and wounded.

Turkey has always stressed that terrorism cannot be legitimized under any pretext, and that we must continue to combat it vigorously through international cooperation.

While strongly condemning this cowardly attack targeting President Bouteflika and Algeria’s peace, stability and reconciliation, we extend our best wishes for the President and brotherly people of Algeria. We wish God’s mercy for those who lost their lives in this terror attack and express our profound condolences to the families of the victims.
