Foreign Minister of Iran Javad Zarif paid a visit to Turkey on 19 March 2016. After meeting with Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu, Foreign Minister Zarif was received by President Erdoğan and Prime Minister Davutoğlu. During the meetings, bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments were discussed.

At the joint press conference with Foreign Minister Zarif, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu referred to the terrorist attack in İstanbul and underlined that the fight against terrorism will continue resolutely. He once again called upon the international community to take joint action against terrorism. Foreign Minister Zarif condemned terrorism and offered his condolences. Furthermore, both Ministers stressed the importance of further enhancing bilateral relations including the goal of increasing annual trade volume to 30 billion dollars.
