Diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Nepal were established in 1962. The Turkish Embassy in New Delhi is accredited to Nepal and the Embassy of Nepal in Islamabad is accredited to Türkiye.

Within the framework of high level visits between the two countries, Mr. Sahana Pradhan, Foreign Minister of Nepal participated in the First United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC-I), which took place in Istanbul, on 9-11 July 2007. Former Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Ahmet Davutoğlu, visited Nepal on 17 February 2011 and Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal visited Türkiye to participate in the Fourth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC-IV), which took place in Istanbul, on 9-13 May 2011.

Türkiye extended assistance to the people of Nepal in the transitional period following natural disasters and ten year long armed conflicts. In this framework, Türkiye’s 50,000 Dollars worth humanitarian assistance for 250.000 people affected by the floods was conveyed to Nepal in March 2009 via United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). Moreover, Türkiye provided 97,500 Dollars through Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) for the construction of a dormitory for female students of the Kathmandu University School of Management (KUSoM).

After the earthquakes which struck Nepal on 25 April 2015 and 12 May 2015, Türkiye delivered humanitarian assistance and took part in rescue operations. Furthermore, Türkiye provided 2 milion Dollars of development assistance for Nepal.

H.E. Kamal Thapa, Former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal, participated in “World Humanitarian Summit” held in İstanbul on 23-24 May 2016. During the visit, a memorandum of understanding on the establishment of a political consultation mechanism between two Foreign Ministries was signed by H.E. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and H.E. Thapa. In this framework, the first political consultations between Türkiye and Nepal was held in Katmandu on 18 April 2019 at the level of Director Generals.

Vice Predisent H.E. Fuat Oktay met with the Nepalese Prime Minister H.E. K.P. Sharma Oli on 10 June 2019, in Geneva, on the occassion of the 100th Year Conference of the International Labor Organization (ILO).
