Turkish and German Foreign Ministers discussed Turkey-EU relations.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany Mr. Guido Westerwelle paid a working visit to Turkey on 14-15 May 2012.

During their meeting on 14 May 2012 in Ankara, Foreign Minister Davutoğlu and his German counterpart Westerwelle exchanged views on bilateral relations as well as Turkey-EU relations, Turkey-EU visa exemption, NATO Chicago Summit, Syria and other current regional and international issues.

Speaking at the joint press conference Foreign Minister Davutoğlu stated that close relations between Turkey and Germany have significant importance in term of accelerating Turkey-EU relations. German Foreign Minister Westerwelle said that Turkey-EU relations could be more active following the recent elections in Europe and Germany would like to contribute to the progress in the relations. He expressed that development of Turkey-EU relationship is of interest to both Turkey and the EU.

AS part of his visit, German Foreign Minister Westerwelle participated in the 14th Kronberg Talks Forum on “Europe, Turkey and Promoting and Strengthening the Mediterranean Cooperation”, organized with the contribution of Sabancı University on 15 May 2012.
