Turkey’s Honorary Consuls from African, Asian and Middle Eastern Countries visit Turkey

The Meeting of Honorary Consuls is being held with the participation of 25 Honorary Consuls of Turkey in 23 different African, Asian and Middle Eastern countries between 14 and 19 April 2014 in Ankara and İstanbul.

Speaking at the dinner hosted in honor of the Guest Honorary Consuls, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Naci Koru pointed out that the Meeting of Honorary Consuls are becoming a tradition. Deputy Minister Koru stated that Turkey attaches importance to strengthen the dialogue with its Honorary Consuls in Africa, Asia and the Middles East.

Briefing Honorary Consuls about the Turkish foreign policy, Deputy Minister Koru emphasized that Turkey has gone through a great transformation thanks to the progress achieved in the economic field and the democratization process.

Pointing out to the multi-dimensional characteristic of the Turkish foreign policy, Deputy Minister Koru stated that on one hand, Turkey aims close cooperation and economic integration with the neighboring geography, on the other hand, continues to work towards its European Union membership as its strategic objective. He underlined that Turkey has deepened its opening up to Africa, Latin America and Asia-Pacific regions and has developed relations based on concrete cooperation projects.

Drawing attention to the tasks undertaken by Turkey in international organizations, Deputy Minister Koru mentioned the efforts that are being carried out regarding the candidacy of Turkey to United Nations Security Council non-permanent membership for 2015-2016.

Within the framework of their visit to Turkey, Turkey’s Honorary Consuls will be informed about the developments in foreign policy and economy as well as the changes in the consular regulations. Honorary Consuls also will visit İstanbul in order to get acquainted with Turkey’s socio-cultural characteristics and within this respect will come together with businessmen in meetings hosted by Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK).
