Bilateral Political Relations between Turkey and Kuwait

Turkey enjoys excellent relations with Kuwait based on common cultural and historical ties. 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Turkey and Kuwait.

Turkey’s bilateral relations with Kuwait has intensified in recent years through high-level visits as well as numerous agreements signed during those visits. The visit of the Amir of Kuwait H.H. Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Caber Al Sabah to Turkey between 20-22 March 2017 as well as on the occasion of the OIC Extraordinary Summit on Al-Quds and H.E. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to Kuwait on 8-9 May 2017, 23-24 July 2017 and 14 November 2017 strengthened this momentum in bilateral relations. Moreover, the Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, H.E. İsmail Kahraman, paid a visit to Kuwait on 16-18 December 2017.

In order to improve dialogue and cooperation between the two countries, Turkey and Kuwait decided to establish a Joint Committee for Cooperation at the level of Foreign Ministers in March 2008. The Committee held its first meeting on 24 October 2013 in Kuwait. The second meeting of the aforementioned Committee is expected to convene in Turkey in the upcoming period. Moreover, the fourth round of political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Turkey and Kuwait took place in Ankara on 24-25 August 2017.
