Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Mr. Mustafa Akıncı paid his first visit abroad to Turkey upon the invitation of President Erdoğan on 6 May 2015.

President Akıncı was welcomed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu at the airport, then met with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Presidential Palace following his visit to the Mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

Speaking at the joint press conference held after the tête-à-tête meeting and meetings between the delegations, President Erdoğan said: “We believe 2015 can be the year of solution in Cyprus. This opportunity should not be wasted again like the one in 2004. The solution can only be reached on a negotiation table within the United Nations framework. Trying to achieve an outcome through other means will be a vain exercise.”

On the other hand, President Akıncı said that they will have a very close relationship, dialogue and cooperation with Turkey in order to achieve success in the negotiation process and emphasized that it is not possible to achieve results solely with the efforts of the Turkish side.
