Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu paid an official visit to Tajikistan on 21 October 2016 to hold several meetings. During his visit, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu was received by President Rahmon and held meetings with Foreign Minister Aslov of Tajikistan. In the meetings held during the visit, bilateral cooperation opportunities as well as additional steps to be taken to further relations in every field including commercial and economic areas were discussed.

Following their meetings, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu and Foreign Minister Aslov signed the cooperation plan between the two Foreign Ministries for the years 2017-2020, which aims to strengthen cooperation between the two Foreign Ministries in many fields ranging from political issues to cultural and consular affairs.

Furthermore, the meeting held between Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu and Foreign Minister Aslov during the said visit is the first meeting that took place after eight years at Foreign Ministerial level.
