QA-2, 25 January 2019, Statement of the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr.Hami Aksoy, in Response to a Question Regarding the Approval of the Prespa Agreement on the Name Issue between Macedonia and Greece in the Parliament of Greece on 25 January 2019

Turkey has recognised the Republic of Macedonia with this constitutional name since its independence. The dispute referred to as the “name issue” has been an obstacle especially to Macedonia’s NATO and EU membership processes for 27 years. We welcome the approval of the Prespa Agreement, which provides a solution to this issue, at the Parliament of Greece, following the Parliament of Macedonia, with the understanding that this obstacle to Macedonia’s NATO and EU memberships is now removed.
