Visit of Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu to Thailand to attend the Turkey-ASEAN Meeting, 26-30 July 2019

Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu visited Thailand to attend the Turkey - Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ (ASEAN) Meeting and to hold bilaterals.

On 26 July 2019 Minister Çavuşoğlu met with Governor Sukprachai Iamsuwan of Chiang Mai, a city rich in culture and natural beauty.

At the meeting, possibilities of cooperation in tourism were evaluated.

On the same day, Minister Çavuşoğlu met also with Varodom Pitakanonda, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Chiang Mai, which is the sister city of Gaziantep and Bursa.

At the meeting, opportunities to increase trade were discussed.

Minister Çavuşoğlu went to Bangkok after Chiang Mai and on 28 July 2019 met with Turkish business people who have investments in Thailand.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that we were aiming to sign the Free Trade Agreement between our countries as soon as possible to further develop our trade relations.

On 30 July 2019 Minister Çavuşoğlu started bilaterals during the ASEAN Meeting with Foreign Minister Teodoro Locsin Jr. of the Philippines.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that on the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Turkey-Philippines diplomatic relations, we aimed to increase trade volume and defense industry cooperation and that we would continue contributing to the Philippines peace process.

On the same day, Minister Çavuşoğlu met with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov of the Russian Federation.

At the meeting bilateral issues and regional topics, in particular Syria (Idlib, Astana Process, Constitutional Committee) were discussed.

Later that day, Minister Çavuşoğlu met also with Foreign Minister Wang Yi of People’s Republic of China.

At the meeting bilateral issues, including energy and investments were discussed as well as the situation of Uyghur Turks.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that we would send an observation delegation to Xinjiang upon invitation of the Chinese authorities.

After the meeting Minister Çavuşoğlu met also with Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai of Thailand and thanked him for his warm hospitality during the ASEAN meetings.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stressed that we were aiming to strengthen our relations with Thailand in all fields, in particular trade and investment.

Finally, Minister Çavuşoğlu attended the ASEAN-Turkey Sectoral Dialogue Partnership Trilateral Meeting.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that, as Sectoral Dialogue Partner of ASEAN, we were aiming to combine Asia’s rich diversity and Turkey’s unique geopolitical location in Eurasia.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stressed that we were working to further develop our relations with ASEAN and 10 ASEAN members and implement the Road Map of our cooperation.
