Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu visited Strasbourg to attend the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the Council of Europe on 1 October 2019.

Minister Çavuşoğlu attended the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the Council of Europe as Honorary President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Minister Çavuşoğlu met with President Liliane Maury Pasquier of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that we were ready to cooperate against racism, xenophobia and Islamophobia.

Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized that we should work together on the proposal of President Erdogan to declare March 15 as Solidarity Against Islamophobia Day in the United Nations.

Later that day, Minister Çavuşoğlu had a fruitful meeting with Secretary General Marija Pejcinovic Buric of the Council of Europe.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that we attached importance to our cooperation with the Council of Europe on its 70th anniversary and that we were supporting the reform process of the Council of Europe.

Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized that we should fight together against all terrorist organizations without exception.

Then, Minister Çavuşoğlu congratulated Elif Başak Çağlar, the winner of the country in the composition competition organized by our Ministry of National Education within the framework of the 70th anniversary of the Council of Europe and wished her success.

Minister Çavuşoğlu also met with Former Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland, with whom he worked during his term as President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Minister Çavuşoğlu thanked him for his hard work and his important contributions to the Council of Europe during his term and wished him all the best in the future.

Finally, Minister Çavuşoğlu met with Turkish citizens living in Strasbourg, who are part of the social, economic and cultural life of France.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that with our missions in France, we would always continue to stand by them.
