Visit of Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu to Latvia, 16 May 2019

On 16 May 2019 Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu visited Latvia for bilateral meetings.

Minister Çavuşoğlu visited first the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia in the capital Riga. Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia was testimony of the grim side of past century and that Turkey stood by the Latvian people by not recognizing the occupation.

On the same day, Minister Çavuşoğlu was also received by President Raimonds Vejonis of Latvia.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that Latvia acknowledged the importance of our EU membership process and supported it. Minister Çavuşoğlu stressed also that Turkey continued to be the first destination for Latvian tourists.

Minister Çavuşoğlu met with Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics of Latvia.

Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized that Turkey-Latvia trade relations doubled in the last decade and that the first Joint Economic and Trade Commission meeting, which would be held in autumn this year, would further develop our economic relations.

After the meeting Minister Çavuşoğlu also met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Artis Pabriks of Latvia.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that as NATO Allies, we would enhance Turkey-Latvia strategic cooperation in defence industry.

Later that day, Minister Çavuşoğlu met also with Speaker Inara Murniece of the Latvian Parliament.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that we were determined to further develop relations between Turkish and Latvian Parliaments in a spirit of solidarity and friendship.

After his visit to Riga, Minister Çavuşoğlu traveled to Helsinki, capital of Finland.
