Visit of Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu to the U.S. to attend meetings of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly, 26 September 2019

The visit of Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu to New York for the 74th session of the UN General Assembly continues.

On 26 September 2019, Minister Çavuşoğlu participated in the 15th MIKTA Foreign Ministers Meeting.

At the meeting, recent developments on regional and international issues were evaluated.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that MIKTA, which was established 5 years ago, was an important platform to reform the UN and revitalize multilateral cooperation mechanisms.

On the same day, Minister Çavuşoğlu attended the meeting of the UN Group of Friends of Mediation hosted by Turkey.

Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized our country’s leading role in mediation activities to ensure international peace and security.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that we were pleased that the Group established together with Finland 10 years ago reached 59 members.

Minister Çavuşoğlu also met with Foreign Minister Ramona Manescu of Romania, Foreign Minister Heiko Maas of Germany and Foreign Minister Ezechiel Nibigira of Burundi.

At the meetings bilateral relations and cooperation opportunities were discussed.

Minister Çavuşoğlu also met with Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias of Greece.

After that meeting, Minister Çavuşoğlu attended the high level side-event on Environment and Sustainable Development Goals co-hosted by Turkey, Malaysia and Pakistan.

In his speech at the event Minister Çavuşoğlu underlined the necessity of close regional and global cooperation to tackle environmental challenges. Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that we would continue to contribute to efforts in this regard.

Later that day, Minister Çavuşoğlu attended the meeting of UNRWA.

In his speech at the meeting Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized that the international community should support UNRWA politically and financially.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that Turkey would continue to support our Palestinian brothers and sisters going through tough times and also contribute to UNRWA that supports Palestine refugees.

After that meeting, Minister Çavuşoğlu attended the Foreign Ministers’ Meeting of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee.

Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized that the economic development of Palestine was necessary for a just and lasting peace. Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that Turkey’s strong support to Palestine would always continue.

Minister Çavuşoğlu also attended the Ministerial Meeting of the LDCs.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that Turkey, leading country in official development assistance, considered supporting LDCs as a priority. Minister Çavuşoğlu stressed that we were supporting LDCs improve their science and innovation capacities with the UN Technology Bank for LDCs in Turkey.

Minister Çavuşoğlu also met with Foreign Minister Antonio Rivas Palacios of Paraguay and Foreign Minister Rodolfo Nin Novoa of Uruguay.

At the meetings views on bilateral relations were exchanged.

Minister Çavuşoğlu met with Foreign Minister Miguel Vargas of the Dominican Republic and Diego Pary of Bolivia.

At the meetings, five agreements were signed with the Dominican Republic and one agreement with Bolivia.

Finally, Minister Çavuşoğlu met with Foreign Minister Srdjan Darmanovic of Montenegro and Foreign Minister Alexandra Hill Tinoco of El Salvador.

At the meetings two agreements were signed with both countries.
