Relations between Türkiye and Trinidad and Tobago

Relations between Türkiye and Trinidad and Tobago have been friendly but stagnant due to geographical distance. Nevertheless they have gained a fresh momentum with Türkiye’s outreach policy towards the Latin American and Caribbean region initiated in 1998 and revised in 2006.

The Turkish Embassy in Port of Spain opened in August 2018.

The then Foreign Minister of Trinidad and Tobago H.E. Winston Dookeran attended the First Foreign Ministerial Meeting of Türkiye-CARICOM Consultation and Cooperation Mechanism in Istanbul on 17-21 July 2014 and had a meeting with Foreign Minister H.E. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.

H.E. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu attended the CARICOM Summit as the guest of honor, held in St. Vincent and Grenadines and had a meeting with H.E. Winston Dookeran, Foreign Minister of Trinidad and Tobago on 10 March 2014.

H.E. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu had a meeting on 23 September 2016 with H.E. Mr. Dennis Moses, Foreign Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, on the margins of the 71th UN General Assembly in New York.

Bilateral trade volume has been increasing between the two countries and reached to 120,8 million USD (Türkiye’s exports: 68,4, Türkiye’s imports, 52,4 million USD) in 2019.
