Diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Cuba were established in 1952. Türkiye opened its first Embassy in the Caribbean in Havana in 1979.

H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Türkiye paid a visit to Cuba on 10-11 February 2015. This was the first presidential visit from Türkiye to Cuba and was a milestone for the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Foreign Minister of Cuba H.E. Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla visited Türkiye on 15-16 June 2017, which was the first Ministerial visit from Cuba to Türkiye.

Minister of Foreign H.E. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu paid an official visit to Cuba on 17-18 May 2019. During the vist, H.E. Minister Çavuşoğlu had a meeting with his counterpart H.E. Minister Parrilla and was received by H.E. Miguel Diaz-Canel, President of Cuba.

Bilateral visits between Türkiye and Cuba gained momentum in recent years. Vice Prime Minister Ricardo Cabrisas of Cuba visited Türkiye on 19-21 May 2022. Vice Prime Minister Cabrisas was received by the Vice President of the Republic of Türkiye, Fuat Oktay.

Minister of Tourism of Cuba Juan Carlos Garcia Granda paid a working visit to Istanbul on 15-18 September 2022.

President Díaz-Canel paid an official visit to Türkiye on 22-24 November 2022 at the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. During the visit, which also included a stay in İstanbul on 26 November 2022, all aspects of the relations between Türkiye and Cuba were discussed and potential steps aimed at improving the cooperation between the two countries were addressed. Besides the bilateral relations, views on regional and global matters, Latin America and the Caribbean in particular, were exchanged as part of the visit, which coincided with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Cuba.

Also, six agreements were signed in various fields and underlined the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation and solidarity.

Juan Esteban Lazo Hernandez, President of the National Assembly of Cuba paid an official visit to Türkiye on 4-6 December 2022. Minister Çavuşoğlu held a meeting with him in Ankara on 5 December 2022. During the meeting, our economic relations and parliamentary cooperation were discussed.
