Relations between Türkiye and Mauritius

Türkiye attaches importance to develop its relations with Mauritius, which is a stable democracy and an important economic actor in the region.

The Turkish Embassy in Antananarivo, which became operational in 2010, is also accredited to Mauritius. Mauritius’s Embassy in Berlin is accredited to Türkiye.

Türkiye has an Honorary Consulate-General in Port-Louis.

“The former President Sir Anerood Jugnauth paid a special visit to our country on 19-21 September 2008. Arvin Boolell, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of the period, visited our country on February 5-8, 2013. Within the framework of the visit, Foreign Minister Boolell met with our former Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu.”

Bilateral trade volume was 76,5 million USD in 2019 and 77 million USD in 2020.

In order to provide a sound legal basis for bilateral economic relations, several agreements have already been signed with Mauritius, including a Free Trade Agreement, Economic and Commercial Cooperation Agreement and Mutual Promotion and Protection of the Investments Agreement. The first meeting of the Joint Economic Committee established within the framework of the Free Trade Agreement was held in Port Louis on 17-18 November 2016.

Türkiye, within the framework of Türkiye Scholarships, provides scholarships for university education to the students from Mauritius. The number of students Türkiye has provided scholarships since 1992 is 54.

Within the framework of the International Junior Diplomats Training Program, organized by the Diplomacy Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 4 junior diplomats from Mauritius have been hosted so far.

Turkish Airlines has direct flights from İstanbul to Mauritius since 2015, which contributes to the further development of bilateral relations in all fields.
