Relations between Türkiye and People's Republic of China

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Türkiye and the People’s Republic of China (PRC) were established in 1971. Bilateral relations have been progressing steadily since the 1980s with the opening-up of both countries. 2021 was the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Bilateral relations, were elevated to the level of “strategic cooperation” in 2010.

While Türkiye improves her relations with the PRC within the framework of her multi-dimensional foreign policy, she attaches importance to the fundamental rights and freedoms of the Uyghur Turks.

Former Prime Minister of China Wen Jiabao, paid a visit to Türkiye on 7-9 October 2010. Then Vice-President Xi Jinping visited Türkiye on 20-22 February 2012. President Erdoğan, in his capacity as Prime Minister, visited China on 8-11 April 2012.

President Erdoğan met President Xi Jinping at the margins of G20 Summits (Antalya, Hangzhou, Buenos Aires and Osaka) as well as the Belt and Road Summit, CICA Summit and BRICS (Pretoria).

Following the G20 Summit in Osaka, President Erdoğan paid an official visit to China on 2 July 2019.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi paid a visit to Türkiye on 25 March 2021, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of our diplomatic relations.

Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu paid a visit to China on 12 January 2022.
