Relations between Türkiye and Barbados

Relations between Türkiye and Barbados have been limited due to geographical distance and different foreign policy priorities of both countries. The outreach policy of Türkiye towards Latin America and the Caribbean region has gained momentum in recent years and increasing attention has been paid to the region. Opening of new Embassies in the region, development and technical cooperation projects carried out by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and increased institutional relations with regional organizations have contributed to the development of our bilateral relations with Barbados as well.

The Embassy of Türkiye in Port of Spain is accredited to Barbados.

In October 2009, H.E. Mr. David Thompson, the then Prime Minister of Barbados and H.E. Darcy Boyce, the then Minister of State, Finance, Investment, Telecommunication and Energy, visited Türkiye in order to attend the World Bank 2009 Annual Meeting.

The former Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Maxine McClean, attended the Türkiye-CARICOM Consultation and Cooperation Mechanism Foreign Ministers Meeting held in Istanbul in July 17-21, 2014.

The trade volume between the two countries was approximately 8,5 million USD (Türkiye’s exports: 8,45 million USD, Türkiye’s imports: 50 thousand USD) by the end of 2019.
