Relations between Turkey and the Philippines

Diplomatic relations between Turkey and the Philippines were established on 13 June 1949 and the Turkish Embassy in Manila was opened on 17 October 1990, while The Philippines Embassy was opened in 1991.

Turkey and the Philippines have long-standing relations, which have developed remarkably in a wide range of areas in recent years.

Turkish Airlines conducts daily direct flights to Manila since March 2015, which enables closer people-to-people contacts between two nations. Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) Manila Office, which was opened in April 2015, is tasked to provide socio-economic development assistance in all over the Philippines.

Turkey is among the members of both International Contact Group, supporting the peace process between the Government of Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), and of the Peace Committee for South Philippines, established within the OIC to support the peace process between the Government of Philippines and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF). Turkey is also contributing to the peace process in South Philippines by assuming the Chairmanship of the Independent Decommissioning Body (IDB) since its establishment in 2014

The number of Turkish citizens registered as residents in the Philippines is around 500. Some 2200 Philippine nationals are residing in Turkey. Under Turkiye Scholarships, Turkish government has hitherto allocated 159 higher education scholarships to Philippine citizens. In the 2018-2019 academic year, Turkey provided 11 scholarships to Filipino students.
