Relations between Turkey and Laos

Turkey established diplomatic relations with Laos in 1958 and opened an Embassy in Vientiane on 27 December 2017.

Relations between the two countries remained limited due to the geographical distance.

Laos Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Sisoulit Thongloun, then as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, visited Turkey on 6-7 April 2008 upon the official invitation extended by the then Foreign Minister H.E. Mr. Ali Babacan.

Turkey gives financial and technical support to Laos, especially as part of natural disaster relief efforts.

A total of 11 Laotian citizens are registered to be resident in Turkey while 20 Turkish citizens reside in Laos.

During the 2015-2016 academic year, one Laotian student is in Turkey under the Türkiye Scholarships as graduate student.
