Relations Between Turkey and Eritrea

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on 19 July 1993.
Turkish Embassy in Asmara was opened in November 2013. Eritrea’s Embassy in Doha is accredited to Turkey. Eritrea does not have an Honorary Consulate in Turkey.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey H.E. Ahmet Davutoğlu visited Asmara on 16 November 2012 and had talks with his counterparts on bilateral issues as well as regional matters.

After the opening of the Turkish Embassy, Turkish Airlines launched direct flights between Istanbul and Asmara as of August 2014.

Turkish-Eritrea bilateral trade volume is about 13,8 million USD in 2015. The main export products from Turkey to Eritrea are electrical household goods, foodstuff and apparels. On the other hand, Turkish imports from Eritrea are is 20.000 USD in 2015.

Turkey, within the framework of Türkiye Scholarships, provides higher education scholarships to Eritrea.
