Recently, there has been an acceleration in the relations between Turkey and Eritrea. Turkish Embassy in Sana’a is accredited to Eritrea. One of the most important developments in our bilateral relations is the opening of our Honorary Consulate in Asmara, capital of Eritrea.
Since 2007, Eritrean citizens are able to receive service from this Consulate. However, Eritrea does not have an Honorary Consulate in Turkey.
In the recent period, the number of official visits from Eritrea to Turkey has increased in the framework of some international conferences such as UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries and Istanbul Conference on Somalia.
Turkish exports to Eritrea were 6.8 millions USD in 2010. On the other hand, Turkish imports from Eritrea for the same year were 10 thousand USD. The main export products to Eritrea are electrical household goods,
foodstuff and apparels, while oilseeds and fruits are the primary import products.
Few Turkish companies operate in Eritrea. A doctorate scholarship has been provided to Eritrea during the 2008-2009 educational year.
