Relations between Turkey and East Timor

Turkey is among the first countries recognizing and establishing diplomatic relations with Timor-Leste (also known as East Timor) after its official independence on 20 May 2002. Turkish Embassy in Jakarta has been accredited to Timor-Leste since 2003.

Turkey and Timor-Leste engage in dialogue within the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), to which Turkey became an Associate Observer at its 10th Summit held in Dili on 23 July 2014. Furthermore, Turkey’s cooperation with the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) provides another avenue for strengthening relations with Timor-Leste.

The first Political Consultations between Turkey and Timor-Leste were held in Ankara on 16 May 2018. These consultations have been the first ever bilateral official political interaction between the two countries.
