QA-1, 12 January 2017, Statement of the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hüseyin Müftüoğlu, in Response to a Question Regarding the Statements and News Concerning Settlement Projects by Greece Regarding Some Islets in the Aegean Sea

The Deputy Minister of Maritime and Island Policy of Greece stated, in response to a question in the Greek Parliament, that the Greek Government is planning settlement and public works with regard to 28 islets in the Aegean Sea. However, which islets in the Aegean are included in the aforementioned planning process was not made public.

We have declared on a number of occasions that Turkey will not accept any possible attempts by Greece to create facts on the ground on geographical formations whose legal status is disputed, and that these will not have any legal consequences.

This is a highly sensitive issue both for our Government and also for our public opinion, as such, we expect our neighbor Greece to act with common sense.
