At a TV program broadcast last evening (17 July) in Egypt, it was alleged that blank cartridge guns which could be converted into real weapons were apprehended in a container arriving from Turkey.

Such claims must be immediately investigated in a most serious and comprehensive way and the truth must be promptly revealed.

In this context, in order to launch the necessary investigation, concrete information about the weapons that have allegedly been seized is being demanded from the relevant Egyptian authorities through the Turkish Embassy in Cairo.

Turkey, which attributes crucial importance to the stability and peace of brotherly Egypt, considers that resorting to violence in this country is totally unacceptable regardless of its purpose and strongly condemns all kinds of violence.

It is our most sincere wish that brotherly Egypt swiftly establishes national reconciliation with the broadest participation and returns to democracy without delay.
