QA: 33, 15 December 2015, Statement of the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tanju Bilgiç in Response to a Question Regarding Some Allegations in the Greek Cypriot Press

The allegations in the Greek Cypriot Press regarding the guarantee system with reference to an alleged meeting of Ambassador Feridun Sinirlioğlu, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey with a Greek Cypriot official are totally baseless.

The issues attributed to Ambassador Feridun Sinirlioğlu do not reflect the truth, and no meeting was held with any Greek Cypriot official whatsoever.

As it has been emphasized repeatedly on previous occasions, Turkey is continuing its resolute support for the conclusion of the current negotiation process as soon as possible with a just, comprehensive and lasting settlement and its position regarding the guarantees is well-known. Turkey maintains its position that this issue should be discussed at the final stage of the negotiation process in a five- party format conference with the participation of other Guarantor states.
