President Rouhani of Iran in Ankara

President of Iran, H.E. Hassan Rouhani is paying a state visit to Turkey upon the invitation of President of Turkey, H.E. Abdullah Gül.

During the talks chaired by the Presidents bilateral relations as well as current regional and international were discussed.

Speaking at the joint press conference President Gül declared Iran to be a friend with which Turkey enjoys a human and cultural bonds and to be a neighbor with which it has a border that has not changed since 1639. President Gül said “Increasing high-level mutual visits further develop the relations between the two countries. High Level Cooperation Council which will be held today is of great importance in that it demonstrates the level that Turkish-Iranian relations have reached”.

Stating that the cooperation between Turkey and Iran will contribute to the regional stability, peace, security as well as to the development of economic cooperation and prosperity in the whole region President Gül said “We have discussed how we could contribute to the resolution of the existing problems in the region, how we could prevent terrorist activities that emerge following the instability in the region.”

Pointing out that the economy is an important dimension of the bilateral relations, President Gül noted that they aim to double the current volume of trade which is worth 15 billion dollars. President Gül maintained that they during the talks reiterated their agreement for the ratification of the Preferential Trade Agreement at the earliest convenience.

Before the press conference, ten cooperation agreements in different fields were signed between the two countries.
