President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan paid a visit to Baku to attend the opening ceremony of the 1st European Games upon the invitation extended by President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan in 12-13 June 2015. Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu accompanied the President.

More than 6,000 athletes from 50 countries are participating in the 1st European Games, which are being held between June 12 and 28 in Baku and Mingachevir. 192 athletes competing in 19 sport branches are representing Turkey at the games.

Within the framework of his visit, President Erdoğan had a meeting with İlham Aliyev, President of Azerbaycan. President Erdoğan also met with President of Turkmenistan Kurbankulu Berdimuhammedov and President Vladimir Putin of Russian Federation.
