11th Ambassadors Conference, 8 August 2019

On 8 August 2019 on the occasion of the XI. Ambassadors' Conference Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu met with Dimitris Avramopoulos, EU Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship and thanked him for his participation in the XI. Ambassadors’ Conference.

At the meeting, our EU membership process, migration and visa liberalization were discussed.

EU Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos then addressed the Ambassadors.

On the same day, a panel on “Rising Populism and Racism” organized on the margins of the XI. Ambassadors Conference was held. The participants in the panel were Miguel Moratinos, the High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, Jeroen Schokkenbroek, Director of Anti-Discrimination of Council of Europe, Ambassador Mehmet Paçacı, Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office on Combating Intolerance and Discrimination against Muslims, Mehmet Daimagüler, a senior lawyer of the case of the National Socialist Underground (NSU) and Oussama Jammal, President of the United States Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO).

After the panel, with the decree signed by Elmar Mammadyarov, Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan the “Medal of the 100th Anniversary of Diplomatic Service Institutions of the Republic of Azerbaijan” was presented to Minister Çavuşoğlu.

Later that day, Minister Çavuşoğlu met with Miguel Moratinos, the High Representative for the UN Alliance of Civilizations and thanked him for his participation in the XI. Ambassadors’ Conference.

Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized that Turkey’s strong support to the Alliance on its 14th anniversary and to the enlargement process of the Group of Friends of the Alliance of Civilizations would continue.

Within the framework of the XI. Ambassadors’ Conference the Director of the Presidency’s Directorate of Communications, Fahrettin Altun, informed the Ambassadors about the communication strategy based on public diplomacy activities.

Finally, in a ceremony held at the Presidency, Minister Çavuşoğlu was awarded the highest decoration of Japan, the “Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun”.

The Ankara part of the XI. Ambassadors Conference was completed with the concert “A Journey from West to East with Turkish Music” at the Presidency.
