International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) had ruled
that former President and Supreme Commander of Armed Forces of
Bosnia-Herzegovina’s Republika Srpska entity Radovan Karadzic commited
genocide and crimes against humanity and that the Serbian forces had
violated laws and international customs of war during the armed conflict in
Bosnia-Herzegovina between 1992-1995. While ICTY had sentenced Karadzic to
40 years in prison, Karadzic had appealed against the said ruling.
Radovan Karadzic is sentenced to life imprisonment in the final judgement
declared today by the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal
Tribunals which carries out the proceedings left from the ICTY.
While the said sentence does not alleviate the agony of our massacred
Bosnian brothers and sisters, it is a right decision for the manifestation of justice.
