Turkey, a member of the Conference on Disarmament since 17 June 1996, has assumed the Presidency of the Conference as of today, for a period of four weeks.
The Conference on Disarmament, having achieved support for arms control and disarmament efforts on a global scale, has played a leading role in the negotiation and adoption of important international instruments such as the Nuclear non-Proliferation Treaty, Biological Weapons Convention, Chemical Weapons Convention and the Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty.
Turkey, considering arms control and disarmament as a fundamental aspect of its national security policy, will continue to support efforts that will increase the Conference’s contribution to global peace and stability both during and after its Presidency.
