No:171, 19 June 2012, Press Release Regarding the Latest Attacks Perpetrated in Nigeria

Turkey strongly condemns the bomb attacks perpetrated simultaneously on 17 June 2012 against three different churches in the towns of Kaduna and Zaira of the State of Kaduna, located in northern Nigeria, and which resulted in the death of more than 75 people and the injury of many others.

Furthermore, Turkey is deeply concerned about the reprisal attacks which appear to have been realized against the Muslim community.

Turkey expressed on various occasions its concerns about the incidents of violence that caused loss of lives and injury of hundreds of people in the northern states of friendly and brotherly Nigeria, particularly during the last six months and displaying a tendency of turning into a religion-based clash.

Turkey, who will continue to support the State and people of Nigeria in its fight against all kinds of extremism, appeals for the building of peace among religious communities in Nigeria.

In this context, we convey our condolences to the State and people of Nigeria and wish a speedy recovery to those wounded.
