No:157, July 2 2011, Press Release Regarding The Reforms Envisaged to be Realized in Bahrain

We welcome the beginning of a national dialogue process with the participation of all groups in the political spectrum of Bahrain today (July 2) in the context of reforms envisaged to be realized in Bahrain.

We support this process which has a critical importance in terms of overcoming the unrest recently experienced in the country and securing normalization and stability. We call upon all segments of Bahrain to make constructive contributions to this process.

It is important for the Kingdom of Bahrain to strengthen the basis of fundamental rights and freedoms that will provide the opportunity to conduct a healthy dialogue. Furthermore, it is essential that all parties refrain from behaviors that could harm the process.

In this context, His Majesty King Hamad’s decision to establish an independent investigation commission comprising of human rights law experts with the aim of enlightening the events which occurred in recent months constitutes a positive step.

We wish that the national dialogue process will serve for realizing the significant reforms that will respond to the legitimate demands and expectations of all segments of the people of Bahrain.

Turkey is ready to contribute to friendly and brotherly Bahrain’s reform efforts which are also significant in terms of peace and stability of the region.
