NO:15 - 7 February 2008, Press Release Regarding the Evacuation of Turkish Nationals from Chad (Unofficial Translation)

The evacuation of Turkish nationals from Chad took on urgency after the spread to the capital N`Djamena of clashes, which showed an increase last week, between Government forces and armed rebellious groups, and our nationals living in the city, along with some diplomatic missions, came under attack.

Contact was made with the French Government which had begun evacuating French nationals in the country. French authorities acceded to our request for assistance in the evacuation of our nationals, including the representative of the Red Crescent with them. In this regard, a number of our nationals were transferred by French military aircraft to neighboring countries, and 6 of our nationals were brought to Turkey through Paris on 6 February by a THY plane.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs appreciates the spirit of solidarity and cooperation shown by the French authorities, the General Staff Command and Turkish Airlines.
