We are concerned by Israel’s decision to build 1600 new housing units in East Jerusalem. At a time when initiation of proximity talks between Israel and Palestine is on the agenda, building confidence between the parties has become all the more essential. In such an atmosphere, this decision raises serious doubts as to Israel’s stance and intentions.

Therefore, we invite Israel to review its decision and to refrain from steps that would change the conditions in Jerusalem and disrupt the peace process.
