We welcome that the new government has been formed today (21 December) in Iraq, a friendly and neighboring country. We wish success to the new government of Iraq which will assume great responsibilities in this historic period while Iraq is fully regaining its sovereignty and re-integrating into the international community. On this occasion, we congratulate Prime Minister Mr. Maliki and his cabinet members.

The establishment of the new Iraqi government in accordance with the agreement reached among the political groups, on the basis of national reconciliation, inclusiveness and fair power sharing would contribute to Iraq's stability and democratization efforts.

Turkey attaches great importance to the unity, stability, peace and development of Iraq and will continue to support the new Iraqi Government’s efforts for resolving security, political, economic and social problems that the Iraqi people are facing.
