We welcome the completion of the general elections which constitute a significant phase in the democratic transition process in Guinea on 28 September 2013, in a transparent, just and peaceful environment.

We congratulate all the national and international parties who contributed to the successful completion of the elections and, in particular, the people of Guinea and the Special Representative of the United Nations to West Africa. The people of Guinea have in fact clearly stated their longing for stability and reconstruction by showing their interest in these elections.

Guinea is a leading country in the Gulf of Guinea and West Africa. We consider its commitment to democratic values, as confirmed through these elections, as a significant step taken towards ensuring the country’s sustainable development.

As it has been the case so far, Turkey will continue to support, in coordination with the international community, the efforts for the stability, prosperity and development of friendly and brotherly Guinea with which embassies have been reciprocally established in the beginning of 2013 and close bilateral relations are being maintained.
