No: 222, 7 September 2016, Press Release Regarding the Regime’s Chlorine Gas Attack in Aleppo

We strongly condemn the chlorine gas attacks in Al Sukkari village of the Aleppo province by the regime perpetrated with barrel bombs that resulted in the death of 3 year old child and injury of nearly a hundred people. This attack constitutes a flagrant violation of UN Security Council Resolutions 2218 and 2209.

The fact that this attack comes right after The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) – United Nations (UN) Joint Investigative Mechanism (JIM) has determined that the regime has used chemical weapons and at a time of intensified efforts to reinstate the ceasefire that has collapsed is clear proof of the regime’s total disregard of the international community.

The international community should ensure the reinstatement of cessation of hostilities in Aleppo and across Syria, also by grasping the occasion of the upcoming Holly Feast of Sacrifice. Turkey will continue its efforts with this objective.
