No: 184, 11 July 2012, Press Release Regarding the Suicide Attack Perpetrated in Sana, the Capital of Yemen

We have learned with sorrow that, according to initial reports, 22 people most of whom are students lost their lives and a great number of people were wounded, as a result of a suicide attack perpetrated on 11 July 2012 against the Police Academy in Sana, the capital of Yemen.

We strongly condemn this heinous terrorist act, wish mercy upon those who lost their lives in the attack, convey our condolences to their bereaved families and wish a speedy recovery to those wounded.

It has been a source of concern that the above mentioned terrorist attack was perpetrated in a period when the political transition process in Yemen has gained momentum after the Meeting of Yemen’s Friends Group held in Riyadh on 23 May 2012 and when preparations of Yemen’s National Dialogue Conference are being advanced.

We believe that all parties in Yemen will act in unity, solidarity and reconciliation and will not allow such actions to disturb the social peace and abort the democratic transition process, and will successfully accomplish the political transition process by holding the National Dialogue Conference.

Turkey will continue to stand by the friendly and brotherly people of Yemen and contribute to the establishment of serene, peaceful and prosperous environment in Yemen.
