No: 166, 13 June 2012, Press Release Regarding the Terrorist Attacks Perpetrated in Iraq

We have learned with deep sorrow that, according to initial reports, dozens of people lost their lives and many others were injured as a result of the terrorist attacks perpetrated today (13 June) in Iraq’s capital city Baghdad and also in Karbala, Hille, Mosul, Kirkuk, Tikrit, Baquba, Balad, Fallujah and Samava.

We strongly condemn these heinous terrorist attacks targeting the peace and stability of our neighbor Iraq, wish God's mercy upon those who lost their lives in these attacks, convey our condolences to the bereaved families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to those wounded.

The fact that our Iraqi Shiite brothers and their sacred places of worship were particularly targeted in these attacks, which appear to have been perpetrated during the inauguration of the remembrance ceremonies of martyrdom Imam Moussa al-Kadhim, obviously indicates that malicious groups, which target Iraq’s unity and social peace, aim to instigate a sectarian clash in the country. We strongly believe that the people of Iraq will nullify the efforts of these groups by acting with common sense and moderation.

Regardless of its source every terrorist attack is a major crime against humanity. As it has always been the case, Turkey will continue to be in solidarity with the friendly and brotherly people of Iraq in fighting terrorism.
