No: 117, 12 April 2014, Press Release Regarding the Visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to Mexico to Attend the İnformal Foreign Ministers’ Meeting of the “MIKTA” Initiative

H.E. Mr. Ahmet Davutoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey will visit Mexico to attend the Informal Foreign Ministers Meeting of the MIKTA (Mexico-Indonesia-South Korea-Turkey-Australia) Initiative to be held in Mexico on 13-14 April 2014.

The MIKTA Initiative has been set up as an informal consultation and coordination platform among these five countries to help find innovative solutions to global issues. Its first meeting at Foreign Ministers’ level was held in New York on 25 September 2013 in the framework of the high-level segment of the 68th General Assembly of the United Nations. Foreign Minister Davutoğlu represented Turkey in that meeting as well.

The five countries participating in the MIKTA platform are members of the G-20 and open economies enjoying democratic pluralistic systems. These five countries, which are dynamic actors in their regions, significantly contribute to regional and global peace and stability and pursue similar constructive approaches in the face of international challenges.

The MIKTA Ministerial Meeting to be held in Mexico on 13-14 April 2014 is expected to make important contributions to promoting the initiative.

Turkey will continue to contribute to MIKTA with a view that this important initiative will help find solutions to today’s main challenges in the international arena and, in this respect to global peace, stability and prosperity.

On this occasion, Foreign Minister Davutoğlu will also have bilateral talks with the Foreign Ministers who will attend the meeting.
