No: 101, 11 April 2013, Press Release Regarding the Attack on United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan

Turkey deeply deplores and condemns with the strongest terms the attack perpetrated against a UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) convoy, resulting in the death of twelve persons and the wounding of nine others.

We extend our condolences to the families of the deceased and to the entire United Nations community, and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded among whom some are in serious condition.

As a country providing personnel to numerous UN missions in various parts of the world, Turkey is particularly concerned with attacks against the UN, the most prominent global organization working for world peace, and believes that the speedy capture and bringing to justice of the perpetrators of the most recent attack in South Sudan will serve as a deterrent against similar attacks in the future.
