Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary is in Ankara

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Peter Szijjarto paid an official visit to Turkey on 25-26 January 2015 upon the invitation of Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey.

During the meetings, the Ministers discussed all aspects of bilateral relations between Turkey and Hungary, with a specific emphasis on economic and trade relations; as well as current regional and international issues of common interest.

Speaking at the press conference held after the meetings, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu said that bilateral relations with Hungary, which was upgraded to the High Level Strategic Cooperation Council level in 2013 are exemplary. Stating that the second meeting of the High Level Strategic Cooperation Council will be held in Hungary in the following months, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu said that Turkey will also host the President of Hungary in March.

Underlining that enhancing bilateral trade volume up to 5 billion USD is our common goal, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu expressed our wish to cooperate in the field of energy and accordingly, a decision to establish a joint committee was taken. Çavuşoğlu also thanked his counterpart for Hungary’s unconditional support to Turkey’s EU membership process.

On the other hand, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto expressed that his country attributes great importance to relations with Turkey and said “We see Turkey as an important partner both for Hungary and for the EU. We support Turkey’s all meetings and negotiations with the EU.”

Furthermore, within the framework of the visit, the “Agreement on the Cooperation Between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Turkey and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary” was signed.
